Brittany Mahomes Gives Health Update After Telling Fans She Had a ‘Broken Back’
The wife of Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes shared that she’s “fully recovered” after what she previously described as a broken back from a pelvic floor injuryBrittany Mahomes says she’s “living my best life” after recovering from an injury she described as a broken back.
“I’m doing great. My back is no longer broke, so that’s good,” Mahomes, 28, told E! News on Friday.
“I’m still in the gym. I’m finally, I think, fully recovered and back to doing the things that I’ve always been able to do. I’m staying on top of my health, and being active and healthy for my kids and my dogs is super important to me.”
Mahomes — who shares daughter Sterling Skye, 3, and son, Patrick “Bronze” Lavon Mahomes III, 17 months, with her husband, Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes — had previously shared that she’d fractured her pelvic floor in an Instagram story.
“Just a daily reminder,” the newly minted Sports Illustrated swimsuit model wrote over a Boomerang selfie video posted to her Instagram Story in March.
“Once you have kids please take care of your pelvic floor. Seriously,” she added. Mahomes signed the warning as “A girl with a fractured back.”
Although she didn’t share what type of treatment she underwent for her injury, Mahomes did joke “vacaying with my homies will maybe make it better?” in an Instagram Story that followed.
The Cleveland Clinic, however, recommends Kegel exercises — which “involve tightening and then releasing the muscles in your pelvic floor to strengthen them” — to help a weak pelvic floir.
“Pelvic fractures represent major injury with long-term functional and socioeconomic effects,” the National Library of Medicine says. “Associated complications can include both short- and long-term effects on the genitourinary and reproductive system.”
And a weak pelvic floor can impact your back, Yves-Richard Dole, MD, an ob/gyn with Metropolitan OB/GYN, an affiliate of The Family Childbirth and Children’s Center at Mercy, told Women’s Health.
“The pelvic floor is connected to the lower back, and each of the bones are connected together by a series of ligaments and tissue,” Dole told the outlet.
“If there is a lack of stability” in the pelvic floor, Dole said, “it can lead to further injury.”
However, Mahomes says she’s full recovered, and was happy to report, “I’m living best life.”
