Given he’s one of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelors, millions of hearts were broken around the world when Harry Styles was linked to Taylor Russell last year.

Yet fans needn’t have feared that their chances with the British heartthrob were over, as 14 months on, he and Taylor have called it quits.

It’s been reported that the couple ‘went through a rough patch’ after a trip to Japan in April, with Taylor, 29, spending time in London, while Harry, 30, has been jetting around the States.

So with Harry back on the market, where did it all go wrong for the singer? Who just weeks ago was said to be ‘besotted’ with Taylor and hoping to start a family with her?

The couple’s romance raised eyebrows from the start, with Harry – who previously enjoyed romances with elder women – notably Caroline Flack and Olivia Wilde – going on to date Taylor, who is five months his junior.

While the pair were fiercely private about their romance, over the months there were stolen glimpses of the fashionable couple out on romantic walks, attending concerts together and enjoying holidays.

Yet these sightings were few and far between and it appears it’s not just down to staying out of the spotlight, but spending time in different countries.

Ironically, British Harry was spending time in America, while Canadian Taylor was settled in London.

‘They went through a rough patch after their trip to Japan and are taking some time apart. He’s been in America and she’s been in London.’

Shortly after her romance with the singer came to light, Taylor admitted in an interview with The Face that she was a ‘homebody’, confessing she preferred to shy away from red carpet events.

She explained: ‘If it’s not for work, I’m not somebody who is going to be at things purely because I have anxieties in the ways that I do, in the ways that we all do, which is not unique.

‘Now I’m living in London, and when I came here I was like, “You know what, Taylor, this is a new place. You’re not in America, not in Canada. You have to open up and allow people to know you.”‘

Elsewhere in the chat Taylor confessed she struggled with letting people into her inner circle and explained how she had entered the new relationship with Harry during a period of uncertainty in her life.

Asked if she ‘trusts people easily’, Taylor mused: ‘It comes and goes. It’s something that has been a big part of my life this past year.

‘I really want to live an open life and meet somebody and be real and honest and truthful with them. You can’t really live an open life if you aren’t sharing of yourself while you ask another person to share of themselves with you.

‘But I’ve found it increasingly harder to do that, and I’m trying to challenge myself in that way right now.’
