JUST IN: A Record-breaking fashion, Lulu Sun (Texas) and Emma Navarro (Virginia) are both through to the quarterfinals of the 2024 Wimbledon Championships.

Sun and Navarro Continue Historical Wimbledon Run…
The two rising stars are the first women’s singles quarterfinalists at Wimbledon from the college ranks since Lisa Raymond (Florida) in 2000.
As one of the most talked about storylines of the tournament, Sun has continued to turn heads with each match she plays at the All England Lawn Tennis Club, going from qualifying to the quarterfinals in dominant fashion.
Entering Wimbledon as the No. 123 ranked player in the WTA Singles Rankings, Sun has since skyrocketed up 70 spots to No. 53 in the live WTA Rankings, just one spot behind former Texas teammate, Peyton Stearns.
In her most recent victory, Sun earned a 6-2, 5-7, 6-2 victory over hometown favorite Emma Raducanu to continue her win streak at Wimbledon.
Marking just her second Grand Slam main draw appearance, Sun has checked off many firsts during her eight-match win streak in London including winning her first Grand Slam match, beating her first Top 100 player, and earning her first Top Ten victory.
Sun helped lead Texas to the 2021 NCAA National title her freshman year, delivering the clinching match to give the Longhorns the win over Pepperdine.
Turning pro the following year in 2022, Sun has now become the first woman to emerge through qualifying to reach the Wimbledon quarterfinals since 2010, and the first New Zealand woman to make this far of a run at the All England Club in the Open Era.
As the lone American left in the women’s singles draw, Navarro has continued her dominance in 2024, a year in which she won her first WTA Tour singles title, earned her first Billie Jean King Cup selection for Team USA, and climbed into the Top 20 of the WTA Singles Rankings.
Navarro has looked beyond comfortable during her run to the quarterfinals, dropping just one set in her four matches played.
Defeating world No. 2, and reigning U.S. Open Champion, Coco Gauff 6-4, 6-3 in the Round of 16, Navarro has now made it further than any other Grand Slam she has played prior to Wimbledon.
Her win over Gauff comes after her impressive 6-4, 6-1 victory in the Round of 64 over former World No. 1, and four-time Grand Slam Champion, Naomi Osaka. Navarro, who has already been named to the Olympic roster for the United States, has climbed to a career-high Live WTA Ranking of No. 14.
During her two seasons at Virginia, Navarro captured the 2021 NCAA Singles title, the second player in program history to win the title, joining Danielle Collins who did so in 2014 and 2016.
In her freshman year, she was awarded ITA National Rookie of the Year, the second-straight Cavalier to earn the national honor, and third overall.
Navarro holds the best single-season winning percentage in Virginia women’s tennis history (.961) and earned All-American honors in both singles and doubles in both years of her collegiate career.
The Ladies Quarterfinal action at the All England Club begins tomorrow. To see the full match-ups, check out the 2024 Wimbledon Ladies Singles Draw.
