Patrick Mahomes’ Legacy Written Off by Former Football Coach’s “Hasn’t Done Anything” Declaration Despite Surpassing Tom Brady
Patrick Mahomes and his NFL legacy is undeniable. Not only has he amassed 28, 424 yards and 219 touchdowns in seven seasons but as a team player he has helped the Chiefs achieve 3 championships, giving tough competition to Tom Brady who holds the record for most Super Bowl wins (7). However, while many praise the dominant Mahomes and his leadership skills, he has received his fair share of criticism.
The most recent disapproval came for his less-defined torso. Adding fuel to this fire, former Coach Jason Brown jumped on the bandwagon and took some shots at Patrick Mahomes, undermining his legacy and ripping his chances of being called elite in the future. The debate started when the former coach joked about the Chiefs QB looking like him, body-wise.
The host dubbed Mahomes as a “235lb slop.” Per the ex-football coach’s statements, he doesn’t believe the narrative that just having an arm and a brain qualifies anyone to be compared to the GOATs. Though JB said that he “didn’t really give a f**k,” he sure ripped into Mahomes and questioned his “media-driven legacy.” Many analysts have time and again compared Mahomes and Brady, some have even called the former better than the latter. However, Brady played a long game of football till the age of 45, thanks to him being super health-conscious.
“The legacy is media driven, though, it’s not my legacy,” said Jason Brown.“He hasn’t done anything to me that’s like ‘oh f**k he’s the greatest ever.’ So that’s my point, like he hasn’t done anything in Super Bowl last year with his first 300-yard game,” remarked Brown unapologetically. He further doubled down on his stance, “To me he’s done nothing to be like some elite great guy. He’s only elite to the young cats in the chat that ever saw greatness. So that’s the media, it’s LeBron James media hype.”
This was Brown’s response to Big Smitty who inquired the veteran about what he thought about Mahomes’ legacy and his tag as this generation’s football messiah. Astonishingly, Brown did not stop with his comments. He made sure to elaborate on his remark bringing LeBron James into conservation. The former coach mentioned how he’s never spoken to an NBA veteran who thought LeBron James was the GOAT. Per the host, LeBron James is the “king of longevity.” James is 39 and broke the record for most points ever scored in the league’s history (40k).
However, since longevity is in question, one cannot forget how Tom Brady extended his career beyond what many would think was not possible. Brown’s comment shows that this extension is rare and till Mahomes is able to accomplish it, it might be hard to claim him as GOAT, setting a highlighted parameter. Retired at the age of 45, Brady was the epitome of longevity and great health.
That’s something that we’ve never seen Mahomes exhibiting despite his countless accolades. But a brief comparison between Brady and Mahomes in their initial years gives a better perspective on the Kansas City Chiefs QB and how his legacy takes a different form.
