“Travis Kelce Breaks Silence on Dallas NBA Playoff Booing: ‘Appreciate the Warm Welcome’ – What’s the Real Story?”
Travis Kelce has plenty of love for Dallas sports, but basketball fans gave him a poor reception when he sat courtside at the Mavericks game on Sunday night.
The Kansas City Chiefs star — who took in Game 3 of the Western Conference Finals along with his teammates Patrick Mahomes and Hollywood Brown (and Mahomes’ wife Brittany) — was booed by fans at American Airlines Center when his face appeared on the video board.
“I’m on the jumbotron,” Kelce, 34, recalled to his brother Jason on the latest episode of their New Heights podcast. “And I heard all the boos. I’m just like, oh, s—. I’m getting booed.”
Travis said he was distracted just a moment before, and was taking a selfie when Mahomes nudged him to point out that he was on camera.
“Guess this is happening,” he said about the big-screen coverage. “Nice. Thanks. Nice to see you guys, Dallas. Appreciate the warm welcome.”
Yet when the camera panned to Mahomes, the crowd gave the Chiefs quarterback — and nearby Tyler, Texas product — a rousing ovation.
While Travis was seemingly disappointed by the experience, he couldn’t help but share that he’s always been appreciative of the area’s pro teams, from the Stars (he attended the hockey team’s Western Conference Finals game the previous night) — to the Cowboys.
“Dude, I grew up a huge Jason Witten [former Cowboys tight end] appreciator,” Travis said. “The Cowboys were always the f—ing boys when they had Deion and and Emmitt … and dude, I used to wanna be a Stars [player], man.”
He then added to Jason’s disbelief, “I did used to wanna be a Dallas Star, but I also wanted to be a Cowboy there for a little bit.”
Back to basketball, Travis did share his appreciation for Kyrie Irving and the Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards, the latter of whom had a highlight-reel dunk in the third quarter before the Mavs ultimately won the game.
The night before at the NHL playoff game, the tight end shared a suite — and watched the Stars tie their series with the Edmonton Oilers at 1-1 — with other sports stars, including retired MLB pitcher Cole Hamels and golfer Bryson DeChambeau.
“Shout out to Dallas, man. I had a f—ing blast. Love the NHL and NBA Western Conference Finals, and always good to see, when you go and enter somebody else’s arena, to see that thing absolutely rocking and the home team’s gotta win. So I was rooting for the Dallas Stars for sure.”
