EXCLUSIVE :The modest kebab shop that’s become a magnet for Swifties: How fans are flocking to tiny north London takeaway after Taylor Swift put in £450 chicken doner order for her entourage during Wembley show
A high street takeaway is proving a massive hit with Taylor Swift superfans after the pop icon ordered 45 doner kebabs for her Wembley Stadium show.
Visitors from around the world have been flocking to the modest kebab shop after the superstar singer placed a huge order for herself and her entourage.
Staff at the Kentish Delight kebab joint in north London say fans have been desperate to try Swift’s favourite takeaway – a £9.90 chicken doner with garlic sauce and heaps of salad.
Owner Ahmed Khan, 55, received a text message from a member of Swift’s team with the requirements for the £450 order.
It will be collected on Friday night when Swift, 34, plays the first of eight sell out shows at the iconic venue.
Mr Khan – who has run the takeaway for 10 years told MailOnline: ‘They have put in an order for chicken kebabs, there’s also a couple of vegetarian options.
‘Someone will be coming round to pick them up in the afternoon.
‘I’m not surprised that one of the world’s biggest pop stars is a fan of my kebabs – we make the best quality food, tasty food.
‘There may be lots of kebab shops all over the country that look like this one but Taylor Swift comes to mine – because it’s the best.
‘She loves our garlic sauce. We make it ourselves.’
Swift began visiting the kebab shop seven years ago when she was dating British actor Joe Alwyn, 33 who lives locally.
She went on to film the video for her song End Game in the shop and pictures of the star emblazoned on the wall have long been a talking point.
Mr Khan said: ‘Taylor has been in here many, many times. She used to come in with her ex boyfriend Joe. Sometimes they would pop in while others they would order a takeaway.
‘Then she came here and made a music video.
‘She knows me by my name. I have met her a number of times.
‘He is from this area and has been coming with his family since he was a kid.
‘They are very nice people and I’m a fan of her music – my favourite song is End Game.’
The unassuming takeaway has attracted fans – known as ‘Swifties’ – from around the world with many more flooding in ahead of the concerts.
Some have been meeting up to exchange friendship bracelets – a tradition among Swifties.
Mr Khan said: ‘It’s incredible the reaction we have had. Even the London Mayors office has been in contact.`
‘We are closed on Sunday but on Monday when I opened up there was a group of them who told me they were so disappointed they had come the previous day and we weren’t open.
‘I apologised for the inconvenience.
‘We get fans in here all year round but this week it has been something else. They come from everywhere – America, Canada, China, Japan, Malaysia, Tunisia. We had some from Brunei yesterday.
‘They come from all over Europe – Spain, Germany, Hungary, Ukraine, Russia – everywhere.
‘A lot of them are already in London ahead of the concerts at the weekend.
‘They were here waiting to come in when I arrived to open up the shop.
‘A lot of them ask what Taylor orders and they say can they have the same but many of them know what to order already. It’s crazy but we feel very grateful that she likes our kebabs the best.
‘Normally we’re busy in the evening when the pubs are open but the Swifties will come at any time of the day.
‘We’re very grateful. Things have been so quiet in recent times because of the cost of living.’
For many fans arriving in the capital the kebab shop is the first stop on their own unofficial tours of locations linked to Taylor Swift.
Many are mentioned in Swift’s song London Boy while Black Boy is named after a London pub.
Among them were friends Melodie Guerin, 25, and Marie Maranzana, 24, from Lyon, France.
The pals snapped up £200 for tickets for the show last July and decided to combine it with a six-day break in London.
They friends applied for multiple shows and have now already seen Swift three times – on the opening night of her European tour in Paris in May and twice when the pop star played in their home city of Lyon two weeks ago.
Student Marie said: ‘I’ve been a Swiftie for 12 years and in all that time she didn’t come to France once until this year.
‘I have grown up with Taylor Swift. Her music brings back memories everything about middle school and high school.
‘She makes good music which has really evolved over time. There is really something for everyone and you feel like you are part of something when you go to a show.
‘Before I was too young to go on my own abroad so I was very frustrated.
‘This is really my great opportunity so I wanted to see her as many times as possible.
‘I haven’t added up how much it is all costing. I don’t really want to know.
‘In terms of how much money I have spent on Taylor Swift. I don’t buy merchandise very often I only buy albums. I’d rather save up for concerts. The live experience is just amazing.
‘We’re here for nearly a week and we are going to the do the Swiftie tour of London and this is our first stop.
‘We came early because we thought that the longer we wait maybe the more popular it will be and it will get too busy.
‘We ordered the chicken kebab. We saw a video so we knew she liked a chicken with garlic sauce. – We are having the Swiftie.
‘We got the tickets online in July last year. They cost about £200 each. It was surprisingly easy. I ordered her Midnights album online and it has a pre-sale code so were able to book tickets a day before they went on sale.
‘I bought four tickets which is the maximum so we are going to be joined by two other friends.’
Melodie, who works in computer science, added: ‘She has not sung London Boy or the Black Dog live so we are hoping she will do that because she is in London.
‘We don’t know where the Black Dog is as she has never revealed it and there are few of them around. We might have to visit them all.
‘We are really looking forward to the show. She doesn’t come to Europe that often and we don’t know when she will come back so wanted to see as many shows as we could.
‘The fandom and the spirit of the music really brings people together.’
Friends Tiffany and Stephanie each splashed out more than £3000 to fly into the UK from Canada especially to see the show.
Tiffany, 26, said: ‘We are going to see her on Saturday. It was easier to get tickets here than in Canada – and we get the kebab as well.
‘As soon as the tickets were released last summer we bought them online.
‘We were trying different things and looking at various options. As long as we could attend a concert we would have been happy going anywhere.
‘We wouldn’t have done that for anyone other than Taylor Swift.
‘I’ve been a fan since I was 10-years-old.’
Stephanie said: ‘I’m not usually a fan of kebabs and didn’t really know what they were – they call them shawarmas in Canada.
‘I can’t imagine I would have ever ended up here if it hadn’t been for Taylor Swift.
‘We are big fans. We’re certainly not embarrassed about being Swifties – we’re proud of it.
‘For me the music is the number one thing – it’s the story telling and it comes straight from the heart.
‘After this we’re going to do some of the Swiftie tour for the rest of the day – our next stop is Camden.
‘We can’t wait for the show but this is a really good place to start it all off.’
