Matty Healy’s Reported Reaction to Taylor Swift’s Album Shows They Were Always on Different Pages

In Taylor Swift’s latest record-breaking album, The Tortured Poets Department, Swift did what she does best and dropped some Easter Eggs about her previous (and current!) relationships.

Of course, in addition to mentions about her six-year relationship with Joe Alwyn, Swift also took some jabs at fellow singer Matty Healy, with whom she had a brief relationship in 2023.
Among the tracks speculated to be about Healy are “The Smallest Man Who Ever Lived,” “Fresh Out the Slammer,” “loml,” “Fortnight,” “Down Bad,” “But Daddy I Love Him” and the title track, “The Tortured Poets Department.”
Now, a few months after the release of the album, sources close to the 1975 frontman are sharing how he’s reacting to it all. “He loves the attention it’s brought to him, [but] he also thinks it’s hilarious because at no time [were they] ever serious,” the Us Weekly insider said, adding that he was also “completely blindsided” by some of the album’s “lyrical content.”
In fact, in the tracks, Swift suggests that the two were quite serious, having talks about getting married and even having kids together. “You s–- talked me under the table, talking rings and talking cradles,” she sings on “Loml.”
According to Healy, however, those conversations were never on the table. “For her to be saying things about baby carriages … and living together — he says it had never even come up,” the friend continued. “He’s taking it in stride.”
So while we’ll never fully know what conversations did or did not take place, it’s safe to say these two were decidedly never on the same page. After all, if one person is saying they’re thinking about marriage while the other thinks things aren’t even serious, there’s definitely something wrong.
Prior to this report, Healy had spoken out about the album to Entertainment Tonight. “How would you rate your Taylor dis track compared to the 30 others?” a photographer asked Healy in late April. “I haven’t really listened to that much of it,” Healy responded. “But I’m sure it’s good.”
